Developing the Hybrid Mind

The Biophilia Hypothesis

Health is not the absence of pain and illness but a culmination of physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual fitness.

A Yale professor named Stephen Kellert, who helped with the biophilia hypothesis, mentions the move from pathology to potential. Human beings are designed to walk, run, hike as our mechanisms are to keep moving. When humans are on the move, it is by necessity as our abilities can trace it to our genome’s songlines.

Research suggests that long-distance runners and hikers increase the body’s opioids, resulting in euphoria and happiness. The gratification arises in some hikers and runners referred to as the hikers/runners high.

One of the UK’s leading voices, physician William Bird speaks about the importance of connecting to nature. It is a known fact that plants and animals use mitochondria to transfer nutrients and air into energy. Every cell in our bodies contains around 200 to 300 mitochondria which constitute being cellular power plants. They also engage in other processes like cell differentiation, cell growth and cell death.

The friendly bacteria Mycobacterium vaccae found in soil produces more serotonin.

Exposure to nature boosts mood and the immune system.

A study conducted at Bristol University about the friendly bacteria Mycobacterium vaccae found in soil suggests that it produces more serotonin. The lack of serotonin is connected to depression in people, and the functionalities of common antidepressants work by increasing the production of serotonin in the brain.

American writer-naturalist Henry Beston rightly mentioned, “A denatured life is a dehumanized life.” He goes on to say, “no longer a part of the human spirit, a part of every flesh and bone, man becomes, as it were, a kind of cosmic outlaw.”

The Balance

The internet certainly has its benefits, and there is no denying that. Still, suppose there is no force to balance out the electronic immersion. In that case, it creates a hole in the boat that drains our ability to think clearly, pay attention, and be creative and productive. The best antidote to the harmful electronic immersion is the increase in “natural” information we receive.

IEXP 360 intentionally design programs keeping the significance of nature-based learning. An in-depth study of the science of Experiential Education is the building block of a truly effective program. It assists the young mind and consciousness in the positive direction to self-actualization. The peripheral steps taken by the young mind is like planting seeds of unlimited potential. If watered and practised enough, the source can grow to create a paradigm shift leading to transformative change.
